“In-the-kitchen-too-much” cookbook giveaway!

UPDATE: Contest now closed, winners being chosen! :)

Hi friends!  Since I’ve returned from Summerfest I have been testing new recipes something fierce (actually, was doing the same before I left too).  In fact, I am testing new things so often that I rarely get time to sit and format the recipes and share them with you.

And, I want to post with photos… and it takes me FOREVER to get a proper food photo with our schedules with the girls and simply keeping up with being a mom.

So, here’s the thing.  I’m buying some time before I post again – at least a few days.  Time to get some recipes formatted, and start this plant-powered kids’ series!  I figure a cookbook giveaway does the trick… right? :)

I am giving away TWO copies of LTEV… and TWO copies of ed&bv!  That’s four winners, so your chances are good here to snag a new cookbook!  (and if you already have one or the other and want to choose one of my other cookbooks, can do!)

To enter:

1) Comment on THIS post.  How about you share your favorite bean!

2) To grab a second entry, follow me on twitter (if you haven’t already) and retweet this post OR “like” my facebook page (if you haven’t already) and share the status update that links to this post. (I will see who shares the post through facebook) ***UPDATE: I will track those that have already shared on facebook and twitter, but if you can, please come back and comment a second time on this post with “tweet” or “facebook” as your names here and on twitter/fb may differ!

Contest open to residents of Canada and the US.  I will draw the winner once I get out of the kitchen. ;)

  51. Nan says:

I love all beans except black eyed peas – my favourite way to eat them is in a burrito – I can eat them everyday – and come close to that. I keep a can of beans in my car as part of my “emergency” food kit for when I find myself somewhere that for whatever reason cant (maybe won’t ) do vegan.

  52. Lisa says:

I love all your cookbooks, and would love to win a copy of one!

  75. Geneviève Taylor says:

I already have ed&bv and LTEV and I absolutely adore them!! I would love to receive The Everyday Vegan or Vive le Vegan because I am sure I would also fall in love with those recipes… :)

As for beans, I love them all, although I do have a special sentimental attachment to the chickpea. My parents used to bring me to lebanese restaurants all the time when I was little and I always loved hummus…and then my family went to live in North Africa for a while, so chickpeas make me smile because they remind me of my childhood and because they’re so versatile and delicious!

Keeping my fingers crossed ’cause I really want to win your book!!

  76. I would love to win a copy of any one of your cookbooks! I love making chickpea cutlets or hummus with garbanzo beans. They’re my absolute favorite! Lima beans are a close runner-up. Come to think of it, there’s really not a bean that I don’t like!

  77. Angela says:

    Hi Dreena,
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the great recipes and veg-inspiration you have posted here! We have been focusing on eating more of a plant-based diet, and had a yummy salad with chickpeas today. I think chickpeas and lentils are my favorite, although we are still getting the hang of making hummus. I plan on purchasing one of your cookbooks soon! Thank you!

  79. Caroline says:

My favorite is probably chickpeas with black beans running a close second. Falafel and hummus are two of my faves! I just made Cuban black beans for dinner tonight. Yum. I already like you on Facebook and I don’t do Twitter. I don’t own either of those books so I’d be happy winning either of them!

Chickpeas are ever so popular (and amazing), but let’s hear it for the humble lentils! My picky daughter’s favorite soup is dal :) I’d LOVE one of your books :)

  87. lindsay says:

We are relatively new vegans and I was so worried my two little boys (and Russian – meat and potatoes- hubby) would not take to this lifestyle but I have to say, your recipes (specifically that loooooove loaf- holy moly is it fantastic!) have kept us happily gobbling plant based goodness. We love lentils and the boys will eat chickpeas straight from the can. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world, it is much appreciated =)

  88. Ricki says:

SUCH a great giveaway! I’m not entering (already have your books!) but wondered if there’s an end date. I’d love to mention the giveaway on my Wellness Weekend linky on Thursday. :)

  89. Allison says:

My favorite bean is the white kidney bean/cannellini bean. I like how creamy it makes dips compared to other beans.

  90. Jenna Z says:

I follow you on twitter (corgipants)

  91. Jenna Z says:

My mom says I would eat garbanzo beans by the fistful when I was a toddler. Then I stopped eating them. Until I was out of college, I did NOT eat garbanzo beans and now I eat them at least a couple of times a week. :)

I love chickpeas and said so on your FB page, but, I would pick the vanilla bean as my second favorite. When I used to eat dairy and had ice cream, I would always pick vanilla if it had real vanilla bean in it. And I never buy imitation vanilla. It has to be the REAL thing for me!

  96. Faith says:

    Tweet! (@faiththomas)

  97. facebook says:

I think this is what you meant. I shared on fb already! Like everyone else here I would really love to win your book! :)

  100. Ali says:

  101. Ali says:

black beans – all the way!

How exciting it would be to win one your cookbooks, Dreena! I’m fairly new to veganism, but have learned so much about it through two of my dearest friends in the world and am committed to it as the healthiest possible way to eat. It has certainly been helpful to me. I love the recipes I’ve seen on Facebook and have been looking forward to buying “Let Them Eat Vegan” as budget permits, but maybe now I should wait a bit before a making a trip to the bookstore. Thank you for your dedication and creativity in making veganism so inviting!

  103. lesley says:

Hmmm…either black beans or chickpeas. I can’t decide!

  104. Briana says:

Hi Dreena! Your site is a HUGE inspiration in my little vegan kitchen. :)
I’ve never had a bean I didn’t love but I simply can’t get over the Pinto bean. Nothing beats a homemade batch of refried pinto beans.
I don’t own either of your books (I have no excuse for this, I MUST get them) so am very happy at the opportunity to possibly win one!

  105. Wendy Jacobs says:

I LOVE fava beans! They are so tasty and easy to prepare for a quick meal. Open a can, heat, add some cumin, fresh tomatoes, parsley, and a bit of lemon juice and serve with pita bread and some veggies. Yum! Just discovered your site and have tried a couple of recipes that have been great! I follow you on FB too and don’t yet have any cookbooks. Pick me!

  106. Susan Lowenberg says:

I’d love to have a copy of your cookbook. Your recipes are great. Thanks so much!

  107. Eva says:

One of my favorite beans is the scarlet runner bean – it’s originally from South America but the place where it is used on a daily basis is South Styria in Austria. It is a big beautiful bean, and they serve as part of salads and by itself with some shallots but always with roasted pumpkin seed oil. It’s outrageously good and we are now growing them in our garden. It’s worth it alone for the red flowers that attract bees and humming birds.

  108. Brenda says:

    I love them all!

  109. KATHY says:

It’s gotta be those odd shaped little chickpeas!

  110. Heidi Taylor says:

  139. Terry Jordan says:

My favorite beans are chickpeas, but tonight I ate cannellini.

Recently, I was at a fancy Italian restaurant with a group of friends. Evidently, I was the only vegan in the crowd and there was not even one vegan item on the menu. Even the salads and soups were filled with cheese and meat stock. The waiter checked with the chef and they created a most delightful main course with cannellini as the base. Tonight, I was back in that little Italian restaurant (in my mind) where they treated me to a new bean.

  140. Debbie says:

Lentils! Would love another one of your cookbooks!

  149. Lanette says:

One bean huh? I would have to say garbanzo beans because they are so versatile. I can eat them cold on a salad, put them in soups and stews, blend them into hummus, and then dry them in the dehydrator with seasonings for a crunchy snack. I suppose I could do that with the other beans too, but garbanzo beans are still my fav!

  150. Marissa says:

I grew up in an Italian family and dried chickpeas (we called them ceci) were always on a table in a big bowl, along with a big bowl of roasted salted pumpkin seeds, for an anytime snack. I can still eat ceci by the handful ’til I look like a giant stuffed chickpea. :)

I love black beans and I put them in everything from my salads, to soups, to my vegetable chili!!!!But today, it has to be green beans, as I just picked a fresh bunch from the garden, and they are on the stove almost ready to eat!!!!!I would love one of your books!!!

  276. Eve says:

I love these beans called Gigantes. And they ARE large. They are used in this recipe, which is excellent (I skip the cheese, of course!): http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/giant-chipotle-white-beans-recipe.html

  277. Mary D. says:

I’d love to win a copy of LTEV even thought i already have it I have someone who always goes the extra mile for us and makes us vegan goodies every time we go to their house to eat (which is at least once a week!) even though they are omnivores so I’d love to give her a copy!

I love all beans so this is a tough one but i’m gonna say cannellini beans. I always puree a can with some onion and garlic powder and the juice from a fresh lemon and mix it with mashed potatoes – also makes a great stuffing for twice baked potatoes, just add some chopped green onions and some of the daiya mozza shreds. Awesome!

  289. My favourite bean is black beans! I love all the Mexican dishes they can be used in!

  290. Sarah says:

I love your recipes. I have your “Vive le Vegan” cookbook and am using it as my main source for recipes as I prepare for a thyroid cancer scan next week. I can’t consume iodine (and I’m vegan) so I can’t eat any soy products. Between your cookbook & recipe suggestions from my doctor it has been bearable. Thanks for the tasty recipes!

    • Dreena says:

Sarah, I am touched and wish you goodness and vibrant health for your scan next week. Thank you, and I send good-health-vibes your way… :)

    • jody says:

Hi Sarah! I’m a thyroid cancer survivor and I wanted to just take a moment to say hey! I know – you’re probably like what???? I think the hardest part of dealing with the thyroid stuff (for me) was the iodine free diet. I wasn’t even vegan at the time, but I was vegetarian and my iodine free diet consisted of plain rice crackers, jello, and pb & j. It was so hard (over a decade ago) that I caved and had to eat meat. Glad Dreena’s books are there to help you out! I’m due for another scan in the near future, so I’ll be sure to stock up before then! Best of luck!!!! And hugs coming your way!

  291. Julie says:

Ceci! I adore ceci (garbanzo) beans in part because of my Italian heritage and for their versatility. When you cook them from dry, the broth looks just like chicken stock and is delicious when salted.

I also repinned and retweeted you. Big fan! Thanks!

  292. Michelle says:

Being new to the Vegan lifestyle, being an atypical cardio patient, I would love to win one of your cookbooks.

  297. brook says:

  298. Stacey says:
